U.N.A.M. Pumas and Leon go into Friday's Liga MX Apertura matchday seven fixture separated by just two points, with both sides sitting in the middle of an 18-team table. Leon occupy eighth place on 10 points from six matches, while Pumas sit in twelfth with eight points from the same number of outings.

Pumas head into the match on the back of a difficult recent run. Their last outing ended in a 2-0 defeat to Club Tijuana, and two of their previous three matches ended level. That said, they collected eight points from their last five matches overall, underpinned by away victories against FC Juarez and Toluca earlier in that sequence.

Leon arrive in better recent shape, taking 10 points from their last five matches. Three wins in that spell — including victories over Monterrey, Necaxa and CF Pachuca — are offset by a defeat to Club Tijuana and a draw with Atlante FC. The draw against Atlante came most recently, meaning Leon's momentum has steadied slightly heading into this fixture.

The head-to-head record between these two sides offers little in the way of separation. Their meeting on 18 January 2026 finished 1-1, and the prior encounter on 26 October 2025 also ended 1-1. Both matches were closely contested, and neither side has managed to find a winning formula against the other in recent attempts.

Goal difference is identical at the league level, with both clubs having scored eight times in six matches. Pumas have conceded eight as well, while Leon have let in six, giving the visitors a slightly tighter defensive record on the sheet.

With the table as tight as it is and the last two meetings between these sides both finishing level, this promises to be a closely fought Liga MX Apertura encounter on Friday morning.
