Cagliari beat Lecce 1-0 at Unipol Domus on Monday evening, with D. Maldini's 29th-minute strike proving the difference between the two sides on Matchday 3 of the Serie A season.

Maldini's goal just before the half-hour mark gave Cagliari the lead, and they took that advantage into the interval. The scoreline did not change in the second half, with the hosts seeing out a clean sheet to claim all three points.

It is a second win from three Serie A fixtures for Cagliari, who sit ninth in the table with six points from a record of two wins and one defeat. Their goal difference stands at 2-1. The result puts three points between the two clubs in the standings.

Lecce, meanwhile, have now lost two of their opening three league matches and sit 14th in the 20-team division. They have accumulated three points, with their record reading one win and two defeats, and a goals tally of 2-5. They are currently in the bottom third of the table.
