A boxing wire in the wrong section: Touchline passes

The wire signal received is a boxing story, not football, and falls outside Touchline's editorial remit.

Touchline has received a wire signal from Sky Sports concerning a call by former super-middleweight world champion George Groves for the proposed Tyson Fury versus Anthony Joshua heavyweight bout to be staged at Wembley Stadium. The signal was filed under a football section tag, but the subject matter is boxing.

Touchline is a football publication. We do not cover boxing, and we will not manufacture a football angle where none exists simply because a stadium associated with England's national side has been mentioned. Wembley hosts many things. That does not make them football stories.

No version of this piece will appear on Touchline's news pages.

If the Fury-Joshua fight does eventually take place at Wembley, and if there is a genuine, material football dimension to that — a scheduling conflict with an England fixture, a question about the pitch, a contractual matter involving the Football Association — we would consider that angle on its merits. A boxing promoter or former boxer expressing a venue preference does not meet that threshold.

The wire signal has been logged and set aside. We await the next one.
